How long do I keep an Sr-22 on file? 

In most cases, the Illinois Driver Services Department requires that you keep the proof of financial responsibility on file for three years.  If you cancel your policy, your driving privileges may be revoked immediately.

A person arrested for DUI in Illinois faces a number of consequences including the automatic suspension of their driving privileges if they fail, refuse to submit to or fail to complete chemical testing.  The Statutory Summary Suspension mandates that failure of chemical testing is when a driver has a BAC of .08 or more. On a first offense, a person faces a six-month driving suspension with eligibility for a Monitoring Device Driving Permit (MDDP).
